Renewable Fuels

REII works with industry, academic, and government partners to identify and commercialize the most promising renewable fuel technologies and processes. REII has conducted numerous assessments of renewable fuels approaches, technologies, and processes. In addition, our team has conducted detailed evaluations of specific technologies. Specific areas of expertise include next generation gasification, syngas to fuels production, development and optimization of mixed alcohol and Fischer Tropsch catalysts and related control and process strategies.

REII is issuing the Global Renewable Fuels Challenge—to increase the use of renewable fuels by 2025 to 25 million barrels per day oil equivalent.  Currently the world uses approximately 85 million barrels of oil per day.  25 million barrels of renewable fuels would reduce the need for oil by about 30%.

In the United States, REII will contribute to helping to achieve the goals set out in the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 (EISA) and the Renewable Fuels Standards (RFS) that both set targets for the use of advanced biofuels in the US.
